What to know before you clean.
Does MetaClean upload or store my files?
No. File inspection, cleanup, and download happen inside your browser. MetaClean does not send your media to a server.
Can MetaClean remove GPS location from a photo?
Yes. When GPS coordinates are stored in supported EXIF metadata, removing that metadata also removes the embedded location record.
Will removing metadata reduce image or video quality?
No. MetaClean removes supported metadata blocks without decoding and recompressing the image, audio, or video stream.
Which metadata can it remove?
Depending on the format, MetaClean can remove EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, comments, timestamps, software and editing records, prompts, C2PA/JUMBF provenance, and supported video container metadata.
Does removing C2PA or AI metadata make media undetectable?
No. Removing metadata does not change pixels, audio, or account-level signals. Platforms may use other detection methods, so metadata cleanup cannot guarantee how a service will classify media.
Why does MetaClean say a file has the wrong format?
The filename extension must match the file's real encoding—for example, JPEG bytes should use a .jpg or .jpeg filename. Renaming a mislabeled file to its correct extension may resolve the warning.
